“Sometimes the beginning of your favourite memory is also the beginning of your greatest heartbreak.”
I still remember the day we first crossed paths. It all began when I was in 8th garde.
A new school, unfamiliar faces, new teachers, and friendship waiting to be made. Everything around me felt strange and unfamiliar.
I was just another student trying to find my place in a
world that had suddenly changed.
Until one day it happened—
I was sitting on the first bench with my friends Sofia and Al-hira. I was seated between them, quietly listening to lesson.
Then, the teacher called someone to the black board to solve a mathematics problem.
That was the first time, I truly noticed him—Zorain.
He was just another classmate. A stranger.
He walked up confidently, picked up a piece of chalk, began solving the question. Since, our bench was so close to the blackboard that I couldn't help but watch him.
At the moment, he was just another classmate.
I had no idea that one day he would become someone whose memories would stay with me forever.
If someone had told me then so much would happened between us, I would have laughed.
When he finished solving the problem, he looked for the duster to erase the board. Without turning around, he simply reached his hand behind him, assuming the duster was on the bench beside him.
But instead of picking up the duster, he held my hand. It lasted only a second. I quickly pulled my hand away.
It was the first time a boy had ever touched my hand, and my heart skipped a beat. He looked equally surprised. He quickly picked up the actual duster, erased the board as if nothing had happened, and returned to his seat.
His hands were unbelievably soft. I can still feel the softness of his hand. It was such a small, accidental moment—something anyone else would have forgotten.
But somehow that tiny mistake stayed with me.
Looking back now, it feels like the beginning of a story that neither of us knew we were about to write.
